A couple Alders still standing....all that was left behind by the clear-cut machine in Washinton's Olympic Penninsula. Think about 20,000 square miles with not a single old-growth tree remaining anywhere. Ecosystems that take thousands of years to mature and develop, stipped away in the blink of an eye, replaced by tree farms that offer a fraction of the biodiversity.

As artists, we all have a powerful tool with which to communicate to the world the issues important to us.

It looks like a graveyard or a battlefield. But really, it's kind of both :dead: Awesome photo, though heartbreaking. :+fav:

A good shot for awareness, and a sad shot in that we see so clearly the way we are ruining the planet by allowing this to happen :(

How sad. This looks like a battle scene. All that's miising are the dead bodies. Great capture.

I have to agree this is a fantastic shot from an artistic point of view, however it is a scene of utter desolation. A comment was made, "Nature repairs itself"...well to some extent this is true if that were the end of the story of man's interference, but sadly it is not. While grasses will grow in these clear cut areas, that do provide food for ungulates, the fact is that the habitat for hundreds of animals and birds is destroyed, some become extinct. Then there are the environmental issues, climate change, lack of rain and we could go on and on. The thing is...here in the Canadian North we are seeing hundreds and hundreds of miles of timber clear cut and the devastation left behind.

This is criminal and I'm glad you brought this issue to light so graphically. A job well done.:star:

Fantastic. You did a excellent job capturing the feeling of devastation. I live in BC and unfortunately, past the nicely trimmed roads, selectively out the sights of tourists, are massive clear cuts too.
